The Grand Canyon National Park south entrance is located in Tusayan. Tusayan is on US Highway 64 which leads to the Grand Canyon National Park from Williams, Arizona. Grand Canyon south rim is about 7 miles away from the park south entrance in Tusayan. Tusayan is a small town with a population of 562 according to the 2000 census. The Grand Canyon airport is located in Tusayan. Many Grand Canyon air tour companies operate in the airport in Tusayan. Tusayan is a Spanish word for "Hopi Indian Territory". Tusayan is pronounced "too-see-on".

Most tourists enter the Grand Canyon National Park by the south entrance in Tusayan. Because the Grand Canyon National Park Admission is valid within seven days of purchase, it does not cost you more to reenter the Park. So it is convenient to stay in a Tusayan hotel to tour the Grand Canyon. Tusayan has eight hotels and motels. There are several restaurants, including McDondald's, Pizza Hut and Wendy's in Tusayan. Grand Canyon National Geographic IMAX Theater and an Arizona Office of Tourism are also in Tusayan. Tusayan is a popular stop for Grand Canyon visitors. There are gas stations and a grocery store in Tusayan. Taxi service is available from Tusayan to the Grand Canyon South Rim. Since there is no year round shuttle transportation service available from Tusayan to Grand Canyon south rim, the best way to tour Grand Canyon National Park is to have your own car, or rent a car from other locations, such as Flagstaff, Phoenix, or Las Vegas. There is no car rental in Tusayan.

Tusayan Hotels

Tusayan Hotels are located about 7 miles from the Grand Canyon South Rim in the National Park. Compared with the rustic lodges inside the Grand Canyon National Park, Tusayan hotels are modern hotels or motels with TV, phone, air conditioning, shower, swimming pool, etc. Some Tusayan hotels also have high speed Internet. If you have a car, it is convenient to stay in Tusayan hotels to visit the Grand Canyon. Since the National Park Admission is valid for seven days, it does not cost you more to reenter the Park. It is only a 7-mile drive. There are plenty of parking spaces along the South Rim.

The Grand Canyon National Park south entrance in Tusayan is open 24 hours year round.

For added convenience, free shuttle bus services from Tusayan to Grand Canyon National Park South Rim are offered from mid-May to mid-September each year by Grand Canyon National Park. Visitors must present a valid park entrance pass to take the shuttle. Park entrance passes may be purchased at various businesses in Tusayan or at park entrances.

El Tovar Hotel, the premier lodging facility at the Grand Canyon, opened its doors in 1905 and was most recently renovated in 1998. In the past, the Hotel has hosted such luminaries as Theodore Roosevelt, Albert Einstein, Western author Zane Grey, and many others. Today, El Tovar retains its elegant charm. Located on the Canyon rim, it features a fine dining room (open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner), lounge and curio shop with newsstand. El Tovar offers its guests Concierge, turn-down and room services, and is a Registered National Historic Landmark.

El Tovar Hotel has 78 rooms and suites, all with cable television, telephone, full bath and air conditioning. All rooms are non-smoking. 89 rooms cabin/bungalow, Bright Angel Lodge, designed in 1935, has a natural, rustic character, and is a Registered National Historic Landmark. Designed by famed architect Mary E. J. Colter, it has always been a popular place to stay and the center of South Rim activity. Located just a few feet from the Canyon rim, Bright Angel Lodge is the check-in point for the world famous Grand Canyon Mule Rides.

Bright Angel Lodge has a family-style restaurant, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Another option for lunch and dinner, the Arizona Room features Southwestern cuisine (please note due to the El Tovar Hotel closure, the Arizona Room will remain open for dinner all winter in 2005).

During the warm summer months, the lodge offers an old-fashioned ice cream fountain. You will find a transportation/activities desk in the lobby, as well as a gift shop, lounge, and history room. Accommodations consist of lodge rooms (TV not available, some without a private bath) and cabin rooms (all with television and private bath). 278 rooms,Maswik Lodge is a modern facility spread over several acres of ponderosa pine forest, located just 1/4 mile from the Canyon's edge. Maswik Lodge features a cafeteria that is open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. Here you will also find a sports bar with a wide screen TV, a curio shop stocked with handicrafts and gifts, and a transportation/activities desk. All rooms at the lodge are motel-style rooms with two queen beds, a full bath, telephone, and television. Room sizes vary somewhat between the north and south sections of the lodge. North section rooms are a little more spacious than those in the south section. Roll-away beds are available on a first come first serve basis.

During the summer months Maswik Lodge also features cabins for a more rustic accommodation. These cabins are also equipped with television and telephone services. The cabins have two double beds and a shower. Rooms for guests with disabilities are available. Open year-round.

Yavapai East rooms feature in-room air conditioning and Yavapai West rooms have vaulted ceilings with ceiling fans. The Lodge is located next to the Market Plaza, which includes a general store, bank, and U.S. Post Office. The National Park Service Visitor Center is within a short walk - approximately 1/2 mile. Yavapai Lodge features a cafeteria that is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The curio shop has a wide range of gifts and a transportation / activities desk is located in the lobby. Yavapai Lodge is normally open March through November and during winter holiday periods.

The current Grand Canyon Railway Hotel was built in 1995 and was designed to resemble the historic Fray Marcos Hotel. The hotel opened as, and continues to be, the finest hotel in Williams. The Grand Canyon Railway Hotel sits across the lawn from the historic Grand Canyon Railway Depot. In keeping with the reputation of the original Fray Marcos Hotel for quality and service, the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel continues this fine tradition. A 107-room addition was completed in February, 2000 doubling the size of the property and added an indoor pool, jacuzzi and exercise room. A third addition was completed in March, 2004, adding 92 rooms and 10 suites.

Grand Canyon Railway Hotel now has 287 guest rooms and 10 suites. It has a heated indoor pool, a jacuzzi, a fitness room and game room complete with video games and pinball. There is also a playground outside of the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel for children.

Grand Canyon Railway Hotel has a lobby with maple wood balustrades, an enormous flagstone fireplace, and oil paintings of the Grand Canyon by local artist Kenneth McKenna. Adjacent to the lobby, you can enjoy fine spirits in Spensers Lounge. The lounge is the signature room in the hotel and features a custom handcrafted mahogany bar built in the late 1800s and brought over from Europe.

The historic train runs 65 miles from Williams to the Grand Canyon which takes approximately 2 hours 15 minutes one-way.

Kaibab Lodge is located on highway 67, 26 miles south of Jacob Lake, just five miles from the entrance to Grand Canyon National Park's north rim and 18 miles from the north rim.

The rooms are in rustic cabin-style buildings. Most come with double beds, private bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet. There are no telephones or televisions in the rooms, however, pay phones and satellite television are available to our guests in the main lodge. Pets are allowed for some rooms.

Check-in: 3 pm Check-out: 10 am The lodge closes at 10 pm.

Reservations Cancellation Policy: Reservations can only be canceled at least 3 days before your arrival date and there is a $25.00 cancellation fee by Kaibab Lodge. First night room and tax will be non-refundable if canceled within 3 days of arrival.

The Kaibab Lodge opens from mid-May to November 2nd. Full services (including gas and diesel)are available at the North Rim Country Store.

Direction: Take freeway 89A to Jacob Lake, turn north at highway 67, drive 26 miles to the lodge.
